The SHORT VERSION is a highlight of my self-defense and martial background, training, and teaching experience. It will take you less than one minute to read.
The LONG VERSION will show you 90% of my self-defense and martial background, training, and teaching experience. It will take you several minutes to read everything.
In addition to my martial arts experience, there are also a number of unquantifiable aspects of what I teach and do. Here are some examples:
1. I was the first Jeet Kune Do instructor to come up with a very specific definition for the word “timing.” Now, many students and instructors use this definition.
2. I am one of a few Americans to receive instructor certification in Kalis Ilustrisimo. I was honored with this certification in 2004.
3. I was one of the first American practitioners of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) to embrace and teach leg lock training. When I speak of leg lock training, I am speaking about the training methods associated with developing usable, repeatable, and measurable skill sets – not the techniques.
4. I was one of the first American practitioners of BJJ to embrace and teach wrist lock training. NOTE: When I write wrist lock training, I am speaking about the training methods associated with developing usable, repeatable, and measurable skill sets – not the techniques.
5. I was the first American practitioner of BJJ to emphasize the importance of learning and training takedowns from the knees.
6. I was the first American practitioner of BJJ to come up with a structured training program for students and for instructors.
7. I was one of the first American practitioners of BJJ to be promoted to sixth-degree black belt.
8. I developed the first BJJ over 40 program.
9. I developed the first BJJ over 50 program.
10. I developed several unique Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training curriculums (e.g. The 370+ Training Methods, The One Thing, the BJJ 20/80 Rule, etc.).
11. In my beginning days of teaching, I taught over 100 seminars free of charge.
12. I taught weekly arrest and control classes to law enforcement personnel for five years – free of charge.
Overall, I have had a fantastic experience doing what I love!
